Composed for the Doric, Dean’s Third Quartet was premièred by the quartet in Perth, Australia in 2019, while his unusually scored Second Quartet (2013) – in the composer’s words ‘a concise portrait of Shakespeare’s troubled and elusive young character’ – won the Paul Lowin Song Cycle Prize.
